Two of the 2007 Pioneer and Old Settlers’ Reunion contests have begun accepting entries. This year’s reunion, scheduled for Aug. 13-18, will be held at the reunion grounds in Alvarado. Begun in 1892, this will be the 115th Reunion.
Entries are now being accepted for the Johnson County 2007 Pioneer and Old Settlers Reunion Baby Contest. Being held at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Alvarado Reunion Pavilion, the contest will be divided into two age groups.
The first age group will be for children walking age 2-1/2 and under and the second group will be for children age 2-1/2 to 4. There will be a limit of 100 entries per group.
There will be no entry fee. Numbers will be assigned to participants beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 14 and winners will receive a trophy and a $50 savings bond.
Entries will be accepted by phone or by mail, and the child’s full name, date of birth, parent’s name, address and telephone number must be provided.

The deadline for baby entries is 7 p.m. Aug. 10. There will be no exceptions made, organizers said.
Entries for the 2007 Old Settlers Reunion Queen Contest are now being accepted. The contest will be held at 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, at the Reunion Pavilion in Alvarado.
There is no entry fee and the first 25 girls to register will be accepted.
Contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 21.
The queen will receive a trophy, a charm and a $50 prize. She will also be eligible for a $700 scholarship.
Contestants do not have to live in Johnson County, but their sponsors must be located in Johnson County. Only one contestant per sponsor will be allowed.
