OVILLA – Ovilla Place 2 City Council member Michael Dickey was critically injured in a motorcycle accident Thursday, according to Mayor Bill Vansyckle.
Dickey was traveling on Interstate 635 in Garland when the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
According to Vansyckle, Dickey was alert and talking on his way to the hospital, but he did suffer extensive injuries including a broken leg, ribs, pelvis and two fractures to his back that did not affect the spinal cord.
Dickey underwent surgery Friday relating to internal complications and the broken leg, Vansyckle said, saying he remains in ICU but his condition has been upgraded to serious.
Vansyckle didn’t know if Dickey was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but said there were no head injuries. Additional information on the accident was not immediately available.
A blood drive will be held at Ovilla City Hall from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, with all blood collected to be credited to Baylor-Dallas in Dickey’s name.
“He has used over 18 pints [of blood] so far,” Vansyckle said.
Dickey is an attorney-at-law with his practice located in Red Oak.
He was first elected to the council in 2009 and is in his second term in office.
