WORCESTER, Mass.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -Police in Worcester, Mass., say a pregnant woman is dead and her fetus has been cutfrom the womb.

Authorities say 23-year-old Darlene Haynes was about eight months pregnant and the fetus could survive, but would need immediate medical attention.

Haynes' body was found Monday by her landlord, who was checking on a strong odor coming from the apartment. Police say the body was found wrapped in bedding in a closet and that the victim had apparently been dead for several days.

Police say the death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy, but the exact cause of death had not been determined.

Officials say Haynes also has a 1-year-old daughter who is safe with relatives.
