PHOENIX (AP) -A defense attorney is asking for life prison term for a client who was convicted of two of several murders in Phoenix's so-called Serial Shootings case.

The appeal came in Maricopa County Superior Court as closing arguments ended Tuesday in the penalty phase of Samuel Dieteman's trial.

The jury must decide now whether to call for Dieteman's execution or a life prison term.

He pleaded guilty to two of the six murders linked to the attacks in 2005 and 2006 and was a key witness against co-defendant Dale Hausner, who was handed six death sentences for the random 14-month shooting spree.

Dieteman told jurors earlier in the day that he accepted pleaded guilty in order to testify against Hausner.
