The fifth annual Mardi Gras on the Square hosted by College Street Pub takes place this year Saturday, Feb. 2.

Activities begin at 1 p.m. with live music in and around the College Street Pub at 210 N. College St., followed by a parade at 3 that travels through the streets of downtown Waxahachie. That evening, the second annual Charity Masquerade Ball, hosted by IOOF No. 80 Waxahachie, will take place from 7:30-11:30 in the Town Square Loft at 101 S. College St.

Schools, marching bands, community organizations, performing artists, car clubs and equestrian groups are encouraged to participate in the parade. Entry forms may be obtained from College Street Pub and a trophy will be presented to the best float.

Live music during the day includes performances by Back 2 Blue, Jim Bush & Friends and Baithouse Stompers.

Gumbo Kings Dixie Land Band from New Orleans will perform at the party, which features a full dinner of Cajun fare, including jambalaya, gumbo, crawfish, shrimp, red beans and rice, wine, beer and sodas.

No more than 200 tickets to the masquerade ball will be sold. Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased in advance at College Street Pub. Full masquerade is encouraged, but not required.
