Dorothy Holbert was among many Alvarado residents who was surprised last Wednesday as she was one of Mayor Tom Durington’s Meals-on-Wheels delivery stops.

Durington, along with 25 other area mayors, participated in the organization’s national March for Meals campaign. The campaign slogan was “No Senior Goes Hungry,” with Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis County’s director of development, Amy Jackson, saying the campaign’s goal was to promote awareness of senior hunger, recruit new volunteers and raise needed funds. Meals-on-Wheels delivers 675 meals per day throughout a 1,700 square mile area in the two counties.
