A Waxahachie man was arrested this week on a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Jordan Hardister, 24, was taken into custody after police responded to a call of a “suspicious person carrying a ‘Ninja-type’ sword,” detective Sgt. Bobby Grey said.

The incident occurred at about 9:37 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Lake Villa Apartments on Lakeside Drive.

“When officers made contact, he had the sword in a sheath. He told them it was a walking stick that he carried for his protection,” Grey said, noting a 3-foot long sword was recovered.

Hardister, who resides at the apartments, was booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center on the class A misdemeanor charge. He was released after posting a $9,000 bond.

Grey said the sword will be retained by police and destroyed after the case is resolved.
