ITALY — The Italy ISD board of trustees has named Jimmie L. Malone of Fort Worth as interim superintendent effective upon the resignation of current superintendent, Dr. Gail Haterius.
Haterius is the lone finalist for the superintendent’s position with Clyde ISD. Her resignation is expected Aug. 10.
The board met Tuesday and interviewed Malone and a second candidate, Thomas Campbell. A second called meeting was held Wednesday night, with trustees spending about an hour in closed, executive session before returning to open session to take a vote. Trustee Ricky Boyd nominated Malone as interim superintendent with Cheryl Owen seconding the motion.
Malone’s last superintendent position was with Decatur ISD. He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
In other business, the board moved that the position of speech language therapist is an area of acute need in the district.
The next regularly scheduled meeting for the board is Monday, Aug. 20.
