She was born eight years ago, but has only had two birthdays. Sydney Jones, daughter of Bobbie and Brian Jones, was born Feb. 29, 2000.

Sydney is a first-grader at Wedgeworth Elementary, where her favorite subject is math.

She lives at home with her parents and three siblings – and is the next to the youngest child in her family.

“I like riding my bicycle and I’m into makeup and animals,” she said of her hobbies. Goats, dogs, cats, pigs, a rabbit and a horse surround her at her rural home.

“We have 11 goats now. A baby goat was born on Monday,” she said. “We also have six cats, five pigs and four dogs. Sometimes I feed the goats.

“I like to ride my scooter and every Friday I go to dance lessons,” said Sydney, who’s enrolled in ballet and tap dance lessons at Danceworks.

“Next year, I’m going to take jazz,” Sydney said of her plans for future dance lessons.

Her grandparents live in Oklahoma, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

“I love to visit my grandparents,” she said.

To celebrate her birthday this year, Sydney and her sisters will have their hair, makeup and nails done at a girls’ party shop at Arlington Park Mall, followed by a restaurant dinner.

“Then I’ll have a pool party this summer,” she said of another party planned for several months from now to celebrate her birthday.

On years in between Leap Year, Sydney’s family usually celebrates her birthday for two days: Feb. 28 and March 1.
