American Consolidated Media on Thursday announced Jeff Parra as the new publisher of Waxahachie Newspapers Inc.

His duties will include overseeing the operations of the Waxahachie Daily Light, Midlothian Mirror, Ellis County Chronicle (Red Oak), Ennis Journal, Alvarado Post, Daily Light Shopper and related online digital publications.

Parra previously served as publisher in the Journal Register Company at The Macomb Daily in Mt. Clemons, Mich., a daily newspaper with a circulation of 46,000. In his position he was also responsible for several weekly publications and affiliated websites.

He has also served as an associate publisher for both E.W. Scripps in Memphis, Tenn., and more recently with the Pulitzer Company in St. Louis, Mo.

Jeff brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to Ellis County, having served as publisher, regional advertising director and advertising sales management, said Randy Cope, president of American Consolidated Media. He is passionate about the newspaper business and he takes great pleasure in helping employees develop their skills for continued success.

Parra began his new duties on Thursday and said he is looking forward to meeting advertisers, readers and getting involved in the community.

So far Ive been absolutely impressed with the people, the businesses and the look of the community, Parra said, adding that WNI will continue to focus on its mission of delivering high quality community newspapers that represent the communities they serve in both print and online editions.

Parra and his wife have two sons. Prior to beginning his career in the newspaper industry, Parra served in the United States Marine Corps as a TOW anti-tank missile operator.

He is an avid boater and fisherman, and is in the process of relocating his family to Waxahachie.
