ITALY – The Italy City Council named Brad Chambers interim public works director at a called meeting Thursday evening, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator.
Chambers, who has been with the city two years, holds a Class D water license. He lacks a few hours of training to receive the required certification for the position, Chambers said.
The council will review the matter in 90 days.
In other business, the council entered into a contract with J.K. Excavation to make water leak repairs on Chad Street at Hyles Street and Dunlap Street at U.S. Highway 77.
P.J. Leible received zoning changes from the city council for the property located at 101 Dunlap (the former nursing home facilities).
Leible said she has tried for several months to get the zoning changed at that location.
The changes include:
• amend retail district 1 by adding “apparel and other products assembled from finished textiles;”
• amend section 18 of commercial highway to include Highway 77 with specific use permit; and
• permanently rezone 101 Dunlap St. from single family to commercial highway with specific use permit.
The council also approved going out for bids on sanitation services.
Murdock said the city is reserving the right to refuse any or all bids and continue with local garbage collection.
Bids to make repairs to Poplar, White and Park streets were tabled until consistent bids could be received, Murdock said.
