ITALY - A structure fire early Thursday left heat and smoke damage through 100 percent of an Italy home on the 200 block of College St., Italy Fire Chief Donald Chambers said, but no injuries were reported.
“The homeowner was there by himself. Luckily, he woke up and got out and was able to call,” Chamber said.
The Italy Fire Department received the call at 1:29 a.m. and trucks were on the scene by 1:37 a.m., with assistance from the Forreston and Milford fire departments.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Chambers said, noting it appeared to have begun in a storage room at the back of the house. The investigation is ongoing.
Chambers said the fire was under control by about 2:30 a.m., and the last truck cleared the scene at 5:32.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the owner.
