Polka Festival

The 41st annual National Polka Festival will be held Friday-Sunday, May 25-27.

Thirteen bands, including Grammy Award-winning Brave Combo, will perform at the three Czech and fraternal halls: KJT Auditorium, Sokol Activity Center and Knights of Columbus Hall.

Downtown activities include arts and crafts and street dancing. The king and queen contest is at 9 p.m. Friday night at the host hall, KJT Auditorium.

Saturday’s parade is at 10 a.m. downtown. Special guests at the halls include the West High Junior Dancers and Zoyra Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. The country western concert Saturday night features Ryan Turner and Wade Bowen.

Horseshoe tournament

The National Polka Festival’s annual HorseshoeFest tournament sponsored by Budweiser will be held at the KJT Auditorium in Ennis on Saturday, May 26.

Entrants must be registered by noon, with tournament start time at 2 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per team for advanced registration and $30 day of tournament.

The tournament is double elimination and trophies will be awarded.

Cheerleading signups 05-26

Pee Wee cheerleader signups for girls in first through sixth grade for 2007-2008 will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 26, in the Waxahachie High School parking lot, from 9 a.m.-noon. Registration fee is $100 and only cash or money orders will be accepted. Signups are in a first-come, first-serve basis.

Hot dog benefit

The Waxahachie High School Band Boosters will grill and sell hot dogs in front of Big Lots, 501 N. U.S. Highway 77, for a Memorial Day Weekend celebration from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 26.

“Come out and support the band this Saturday by purchasing a hot dog, drink and chips from the boosters,” a spokesman said.

Country Thunder

Country Thunder U.S.A.’s first big event in the panoramic Waxahachie/Ennis area is under way, continuing through Sunday, May 27.
