A grass fire burned about two acres on U.S. Highway 77 near the Farm-to-Market 55 turnoff Thursday afternoon, with first responders dispatched out at about 1 p.m..
Waxahachie Fire Chief David Hudgins said the fire appeared to have started from the roadway and spread into some abandoned railroad ties. The fire had also moved into some of the trees at the scene.
Difficulties firefighters faced included operating in the rough terrain and the wind, which was spreading the fire, he said, saying firefighters stopped the flames before they reached several round hay bales.
Mutual aid was received from the Forreston and Emergency Service District No. 6 fire departments.
No injuries were reported from first responders working the scene, with units out on the call for about two hours before clearing.
The cause of the fire was unknown as of press time.
