Waxahachie Global High parents and staff have joined forces to form the school’s own parent teacher organization.

Officers include co-presidents Terry Reisner and Melissa Brown, vice president Tracee Franklin, secretary Kathy White, treasurer Donna Phillips, project chairman Kathi Valle and parliamentarian Chris Aulbaugh, who also serves as publicist and historian.

“Right now we are trying to work on getting fund-raisers going to purchase benches and picnic tables for the kids to sit on while they’re waiting for pickup,” Phillips said. “We’re also working on getting a refrigerator for the teachers and a microwave for the students and staff.”

“One of the ways that we are going to raise funds is working at the Enchanted Pines E-Z Glide Outdoor Ice Skating Rink for three days, Friday to Sunday, in December,” Phillips said.

Besides raising funds to purchase needed and requested items for the school, the school’s PTO also has plans to provide the students with opportunities for community service.

“We want to build a relationship with the community and we want the students to give back to the community through projects throughout the year,” Brown said. “We might do several projects or one big project.

“I’d like to see them actually go out into the community and work, some kind of project where they can interact with the community,” she said. “Our question should be, ‘What can we do for the community?’ ”
