Though rain threatened to put a damper on the Fourth of July/Crape Myrtle Festival Parade Wednesday, thousands of Waxahachie and Ellis County residents turned out for the annual event, gathering under awnings and umbrellas as floats, fire trucks, Boy Scout troops and other entries wound their way through downtown to Getzendaner Park.

The light rain caused few problems, perhaps the most noticeable of which was forcing the Spirit of Waxahachie Bandís woodwind players to march without their instruments. However, the band played on and as the parade progressed the rains lightened. By the time the last entry made its way through the courthouse square, the weather had passed.
