Two Ellis County high school graduates were awarded the first John Paul Dineen IV Memorial Scholarship during a special ceremony Thursday.
Ellis County Farm Bureau provided the scholarships, with president Eldon Sparkman presenting $1,000 each to Kevin Gleason and Casey Sellers.
Gleason, a 2007 Waxahachie High School graduate, was accompanied by his parents, Mike and Kerri, and his brother, Mark.
Sellers, a 2007 Ennis High School graduate, was accompanied by his father, Greg.
The scholarships were given in memory of 5-year-old John Paul Dineen IV, who lost his life in an accident Nov. 26 while helping his father on the family farm. Little Johnny’s father, John Paul Dineen III, and his mother, Heather, were on hand for the presentation of the scholarships.
Both graduates plan to enroll in college in the fall. Gleason will attend Blinn Junior College in Brenham, and Sellers will enroll in Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
