Plans are being made for vendors to crowd the Midlothian Conference Center at Experience Midlothian this year, giving away ice cream, pencils, business info and lots of other goodies.
The Midlothian Chamber of Commerce will host Experience Midlothian from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Midlothian Conference Center off of Mt. Zion Road. The event is free and open to the public.
“This is one of the biggest business-oriented events that the chamber hosts,” said Amanda Miller, Midlothian Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “It lets businesses show the public what they offer. It’s also a chance for business-to-business networking.”
The chamber began notifying its membership about the event last week. The event is open to anyone and businesses can contact the chamber for rules and fees to reserve a booth.
Last year’s event saw hundreds of people come to the Conference Center to view roughly 70 booths touting everything from insurance and flowers to travel and health care.
The expo has had a number of names and started about 10 years ago as a simple business expo where local companies came together to showcase their wares and services.
This year’s event is being billed as “The 2009 Midlothian Chamber of Commerce Presents a Community Exposition.”
“Midlothian has a lot of unique businesses and this is an opportunity to get the word out,” said Miller. “We’ve found Experience Midlothian is the perfect way to make that first contact with a new customer.”
Booths can be reserved in a variety of sizes and with or without electricity. Booths are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and booth spaces sold out last year.
Organizers hope the crowd will top 1,000 at this year’s event.
“It’s come and go and we want people to come see the booths and enjoy the Conference Center,” said Miller. “We will be giving away door prizes throughout the day and most of our exhibitors will also be giving away a lot really neat stuff.”
