Let’s compare August 2006 with August 2007.

August 2006, I recorded only five days that didn’t reach 100 degrees or above. In August 2007, I recorded only four that did reach 100 degrees or above.

On Aug. 28, 2006, it failed to reach 100 degrees or above for the first time in 20 consecutive days. In August 2007, I recorded only four in a row.

On August 28, 2006, I recorded 100 degrees which brought the total of 100 degree or above days to 40 in 2006. I have recorded only four so far in 2007, as of Sept. 2, 2007.

I recorded 26 days in August 2006 that reached 100 degrees or above. I recorded only four in August 2007.

August 2006 is the warmest August that I have recorded during the last 34 years of keeping weather observations in Ennis. The average temperature was 89.3 degrees, or 4.7 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 100.9 degrees in August 2006. The average temperature for August 2007 was 85.2 degrees, or, 0.4 degrees above normal. Just slightly above normal. The average high temperature was only 95.5 degrees in August 2007.

The hottest temperature was 106 degrees in August 2006. The high temperature that I recorded in August 2007 was 102 degrees.

The total rainfall for August 2006 was 1.37 inches. The total rainfall for August 2007 was only 0.29 of an inch.

The total rainfall January through August 2006 was only 22.78 inches.

The total rainfall January through August 2007 is 40.32 inches.
