Weather Highlights for April 2007:
April 7 - 12:25 a.m. - sleet or ice pellets with a temperature of 42 degrees at the time. At 9 a.m. it was cloudy and 38 degrees. At 9:20 a.m. light snow flurries reported in parts of Fort Worth and Dallas but not in Ennis.
April 7 - light snow flurries falling in Ennis at noon with a temperature of 38 degrees. Itís the first time that I have recorded snow in April during the last 34 years of keeping weather observations in Ennis. I have recorded a trace of sleet a few times in April but not snow. The snow lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, then quit, then started again about 12:25 p.m. Off and on snow flurries at 1 p.m. Snow recorded one day before Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. At 1:15 p.m. light to moderate snow still falling with big flakes mixed in. The snow did not stick. The temperature was only 36 degrees. At 3:30 p.m. occasional snow still falling with a temperature of 37 degrees, but the snow ended shortly thereafter. No accumulation of snow on the ground.
April 8 - Easter Sunday - early morning weather conditions were temperature 37 degrees. The low temperature Easter Sunday was a chilly 37 degrees and the high was only a cool 52 degrees. A chilly Easter Sunday.
April 13-15 - Bluebonnet Trails Festival Weekend. The first day, April 13, was cloudy to partly cloudy. Winds were south southeast at 15 to 25 mph. However, a little after 6 p.m. a tornado struck Haltom City. I recorded a quarter of an inch of rain in Ennis during the late evening and early night.
April 14, day two of the weekend festival was very cool thanks to a cool front that passed through the area. At 9:30 a.m. the temperature was a cool 48 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and a northwest wind 15 - 25 mph. At 4:30 p.m. it was cloudy and only 51 degrees. At 10 p.m. it was a chilly 46 degrees. The low temperature was a chilly 44 degrees, and the high, only 59 degrees which actually occurred just after midnight April 14 but the daytime high was only 51 degrees.
April 15, day three of the weekend Bluebonnet Festival Trails, was much better, even though it started out chilly with a low of 41 degrees, it warmed to a pleasant 70 degrees with clear skies.
April 13 - Bardwell Lake elevation was at 433.52 feet or 12.52 feet above normal. The normal level is 422.00 feet.
April 2007 is the fourth driest April that I have recorded during the last 34 years with a total rainfall of only 0.86 of an inch.
April 2007, with an average temperature of 62.6 degrees, is the coolest April that I have recorded since April 1997, 60.6 degrees. Itís the fifth coolest April that I have recorded in the last 34 years of keeping weather observations in Ennis.
In summary, April 2007 was 2.03 inches below normal on rainfall and 2.8 degrees below normal on the average temperature. Hey, it snowed April 7, 2007. Now thatís something that you can tell your children and grandchildren about someday. You might say some like this. ďI remember on April 7, 2007 when it snowed in Ennis. Yes indeed. It didnít stick on the ground, but it snowed.Ē

May 8, 2005 - Motherís Day - low temperature 62 degrees; high temperature 74 degrees. Mostly cloudy with 0.28 of an inch of rain. The showers and thunderstorms began around 8 a.m. but didnít last long, maybe an hour or so. The sun appeared only briefly in the early afternoon.
May 9, 2006 - low temperature 74 degrees; high temperature 91 degrees. Partly cloudy and warm in Ennis. But, at 10:29 p.m., a strong tornado touched down near Anna, Texas, and Westmister, Texas in Collin County killing three people and injuring about 100.
May 10, 1998 - Motherís Day - low temperature 59 degrees; high temperature 82 degrees. Clear and almost perfect.
May 11, 1997 - Motherís Day - low temperature 70 degrees; high temperature 87 degrees. Partly cloudy, warm and windy.
