Weather Highlights for July 2007

July 4 - Light rain at 9:15 a.m. with cloudy skies. A shower at 10:30 a.m. and at 12 noon, I had recorded 0.50 of an inch of rain. More showers began at 12:45 p.m. They lasted eight or 10 minutes. The total at 1 p.m. was 0.57 of an inch. At 1:30 p.m. it was partly cloudy and only 76 degrees. The rest of the afternoon was partly cloudy and rain-free.

July 4 - Lake Bardwell was 8 feet above normal - in July!

July 5 - I recorded a high temperature of only 75 degrees today - in July!

July 6 - As of 9 a.m., I had recorded 39.00 inches of rain so far this year surpassing the 38.51 inches that I recorded all of last year. I have never reached 39.00 inches this early in a year during the last 34 years of keeping weather observations in Ennis.

July 6 - 8 a.m. - Bardwell Lake is at 429.86 feet, or 8.86 feet above normal.

July 31 - January through July 2007, I recorded 40.03 inches of rain. It’s the most I’ve ever recorded January through July during the last 33 years of keeping weather records in Ennis.

July 31 - July 2007 is only the sixth July out of the last 34 Julys that I have recorded, that did not have a 100-degree or above day. They are July 1976, July 1979, July 1989, July 1992, July 2004 and July 2007.

July 31 - During July 2007, I recorded only 12 days that reached 90 degrees or above and none recorded 95 degrees or above.

July 31 - I have already recorded more rainfall January through July this year, 40.03 inches, than I recorded the entire years of 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 during the last 34 years I have kept weather records in Ennis.

July 31 - The coolest temperature that I recorded in July 2007 was 67 degrees on July 24 and 25. The warmest was only 94 degrees on July 11 and 22.

In summary, July was cool, at least for July, and July 2007 is the second coolest July that I have recorded during the last 34 years of keeping weather observations in Ennis.

The average low temperature was 1.1 degrees below normal, but, the average high was 7.1 degrees below normal. The over-all average temperature was 81.0 degrees or 4.1 degrees below normal. The coolest July that I have recorded is July 1976 with 79.8 degrees. This July is the coolest July we’ve had since July 1976.

But, July 2007 was above normal on rainfall. The total rainfall that I recorded for July 2007 was 3.62 inches or 1.69 inches above normal. Now, if August 2007 would be as kind to us as July 2007 was, you might say, it would be a “cool” summer, but don’t bet on it.
