Members of the Ferris and Red Oak police departments, along with the Red Oak Fire Department this week joined with Ellis County Outreach volunteers in distributing gifts to area families in need.

The departments were contacted by Barbara Johnson, client assistance director at North Ellis County Outreach, about partnering with their organization to collect toys and gifts for children of less fortunate families.

The departments set up collection boxes and the library where donated items were dropped off by members of the community.

The organization also received a huge donation from Dollar General in Ferris thanks to their manager, Brenda McGowan.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the toys and many other items were distributed to the families in need from throughout North Ellis County, including 12 families from Ferris.

A representative from each family came and chose toys, gifts and clothes for their children.

Each family also received boxes of food.
