The city of Waxahachie is holding another hazardous waste collection day for its residents.
The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the city’s convenience station at 499 Lions Park Road.
“The city of Fort Worth Crud Cruiser will be partnering with us once again to dispose of any hazardous household materials,” said Mary Del Buono with the Waxahachie environmental health department. “This includes liquids like pesticides, cooking oil, car oil, gasoline and paint.”
Residents who anticipate having more than 15 gallons of materials to dispose of are asked to contact the city to obtain a voucher so they can take their waste directly to Fort Worth’s environmental collections center.
“If they’ve got tons and tons of paint, for example, we’re asking they get a voucher and take it up there,” she said. “If they don’t have more than 15 gallons, they can just show up on collection day.”
This is the second hazardous waste collection day set up by the city of Waxahachie this year. In April, about 40 residents turned in about 200 gallons of various hazardous household waste for recycling.
“The city of Fort Worth Crud Cruiser partners with 16 cities and we were lucky enough to get them twice this year,” Del Buono said.
Plans are under way for another collection in the spring, when officials hope to have the Crud Cruiser return and also collect used computers, monitors and related equipment.
“It’s great to be able to recycle all of those things,” Del Buono said.
