CLEBURNE – The JohnsonSomervell County Criminal Justice Community Planning process will kick-off with a meeting at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 to address current and future justice needs.

The meeting will be held at the Johnson County Fire Training Center at 512 West Industrial Blvd., Cleburne.

The Governor’s Office, through the Texas Administrative Code, requires all councils of governments to submit community plans. These plans assist local governments, law enforcement, nonprofit agencies, churches, schools and other community partners with the development of programs and projects designed to address particular justice problems including but not limited to: criminal justice/law enforcement, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention and victim services.

In addition, the planning process will encourage community inclusiveness and address non-justice functions such as transportation, housing, education, health, business, recreation and others having an impact on the justice system.

The long-term goal of the comprehensive plan is to identify gaps in services, discuss new initiatives and increase funding opportunities.

Concerned residents, public officials and representatives from local agencies are encouraged to serve on focus groups that will meet regularly to discuss the concerns and prevalent issues facing Johnson and Somervell counties.

Adam King, commander of the Stop the Offenders Program Special Crimes Unit, and Teresa Steed, office administrator for the Johnson County Attorney’s Office will co-chair the planning process; the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Criminal Justice Program will serve as the point of contact for technical assistance and guidance for the plan.

Co-chairs must identify people who are willing to assist with this project. Anyone wanting to participate who is not already registered on the NCTCOG Web site (www.nctcog.org) can e-mail his or her name, address, agency (if applicable) and phone number to Renae Fruin at renae@johnsoncountytx or call her at 817-558-2667, and indicate which focus group(s) he or she is interested in serving on.
