Waxahachie firefighters kept a grass fire contained Sunday to where it only burned about an acre in the 1700 block of Jefferson St.

According to the reports, engine one was initially dispatched to an odor and smoke investigation call in the 200 block of Jefferson and later redirected to the grass fire call at 8:07 a.m. Also responding to the scene were brush one and a battalion chief’s vehicle.

The fire damaged a barbwire fence, with the cost estimated at $100.

No injuries were reported by firefighters and no mutual aid was used on the call.

The cause of the fire was under investigation as of press time Monday.

Units cleared the scene at 8:31 a.m.
