The Department of Public Safety is investigating a one-vehicle fatal accident that claimed the life of a Midlothian teen.

The accident occurred at 10:06 p.m. Aug. 22 at the 312-mile marker on U.S. Highway 77.

According to investigating trooper Rick Smith’s report, Ashley Sam, 19, was the driver of a northbound 1996 Chevrolet Suburban when the vehicle lost control for an unknown reason.

The vehicle drove off the right side of the paved road and rolled, ejecting Sam, according to the report.

Sam was transported by ground ambulance to Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie and was then airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. Aug. 23.

A passenger in the vehicle, Morris Wayne Row, 29, of Waxahachie, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Both vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
