Red Oak resident Morgan Crabtree won honorable mention in the junior category for her black rhino photo she entered in the Dallas Zoo’s fifth annual Feathers, Furs and Scales photo contest recently.
They can’t say “cheese,” but many of the zoo’s critters smiled for the camera - and judges found plenty to smile about when reviewing the entries for the contest.
Winners were recognized at a reception held in their honor Sept. 23 at the zoo.
The grand-prize winner, John Stevenson, received a winning look from Hercules the gorilla. He also received a Canon PowerShot camera valued at $500. Other winners received cameras, gift certificates and photo classes.
The contest was open to everyone from children to experienced professionals. This year, a new category was added, dividing juniors and children. Categories included children (ages 12 and younger), junior (ages 13 to 18), novice (beginners to non-professionals) and advanced (considerable photographic experience to professionals).
Sponsors of the contest were Arlington Camera, Camera Stop, Canon USA, Competitive Camera, Cooter’s Village Camera, Coupralux, Fujifilm, Garland Camera, Werner Publishing and Wolf Camera.
