LANCASTER - The Lancaster Police Department arrested two suspects early Thursday morning in a burglary in which copper was being stripped from a building in the 2400 block of N. Beckley.

According to police reports, officer Andy Vaughn discovered a man walking in the 1600 block of Idlewild at about 4 a.m.

The man appeared to have been walking through a muddy field and his story of just having left a local motel after visiting friends did not add up when he could not remember the room number or the friendsí names, according to police reports.

Further investigation resulted in the man admitting he was involved in a burglary nearby, according to the police reports, which indicate the man told police his partner was still at the location awaiting his return.

Officers went to the other location and arrested a second man. While at the scene, officers discovered a hole cut in the fence, various tools, two-way radios and a large quantity of copper that the men were allegedly in the process of stealing, according to the police reports.

Arrested were Charles L. Beaird, 27, and Tod B. Hansford, 38, both of Lancaster.
