Tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale now for the first Friends of NRA dinner and auction at the Waxahachie Civic Center on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the event. “We’re planning for a fun and exciting evening for the whole family,” committee chairman Robert Garcia said. Gifted and talented
Maypearl ISD is accepting parent or community nominations for the gifted and talented program. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible. Request a nomination form from the child’s teacher or at the office. If a student is already accepted into the program, he or she does not have to be screened again.

Lighthouse for Learning/Community Education
The fall semester of Lighthouse for Learning/Community Education is under way. Classes will be available Monday and Thursday nights at Waxahachie High School in such areas as computer, conversational Spanish, welding, dance, art, cake decorating, crochet, knitting and identity theft prevention. ESL, GED, mystery shopper, dutch oven cooking, dog obedience, stained glass making, kids cooking, scrapbooking, gardening, holiday and many more also are offered. Freedom Fund Banquet
The Waxahachie branch of NAACP will hold its 23rd annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Waxahachie Civic Center. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for youth age 13 and younger. Each table seats eight guests and businesses are encouraged to purchase a table, place an ad in the souvenir booklet and or make a donation. Call (972) 937-2077.
The Ellis County Art Association is accepting donations for its annual garage sale and “Off the Wall” art sale, which will take place Oct. 12-13 at the Ellis County Fine Arts Museum. All proceeds from the sale benefit the center. The association is asking for gently used art items along with more general garage sale items. Frames and unframed art also are welcome. Donated items may be brought to the museum, 501 W. Memorial fund established
The Cassidy Jones Memorial Fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank, 1111 N. U.S. Highway 77, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
Jones, 16, lost his life in a traffic-related accident July 30. He would have been a junior at Waxahachie High School this fall.
Donations can be mailed to the bank or given to any teller. Funds raised will be used to plant a tree at the high school in remembrance of Jones.

Memory Walk 2007
The annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at Getzendaner Park in Waxahachie.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 8:30. The walk begins at 9.

Memorial golf tournament
The RBI Club invites the community to participate in the second annual “Classic Country” Mike O’Daniel Memorial Golf Tournament to be held Oct. 15 at the Waxahachie Country Club. The annual event is staged to support WHS baseball.
The $85 entry fee per player includes cart, green fee and lunch. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Vendor registration has begun for Midlothian Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fall Festival.
This year’s event will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, on George Hopper Road and will include arts and crafts, food, live entertainment and martial arts demonstrations.
Other events include the chamber’s 5K race.
Vendor booths are available for $50 without electricity and $100 with electricity and water for chamber members and nonprofit organizations. Others can reserve a booth for $60 without electricity and $110 with electricity and water.
Booth space is on a first-come, first-served basis with payment received and only one vendor per booth is permitted.

The Waxahachie Downtown Merchants Association will host its second annual Downtown Victorian Christmas Festival this year Nov. 23-25, Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 8-9 around the historic courthouse square.
