Austin - The Keep Texas Beautiful campaign is offering a way for local communities to be involved in the Texas waterway cleanup program by offering free supplies that groups will need to clean up an area. Through the Texas Waterway Cleanup program, KTB provides free supplies, such as garbage bags, litter-grabbers, gloves, sun-block, hand sanitizer, first aid kits, promotional posters, educational materials, volunteer giveaway items, and more to any Texan interested in protecting local waterways.
Service groups, scouts and clubs of any size membership interested in hosting a clean up are eligible to receive the supplies which help improve water quality, reduce threats to human health and wildlife, and restore natural beauty in Texas communities.
The program, a partnership between Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, helps support the cleanup of lakes, rivers, creeks, ponds, wetlands, and other inland freshwater areas.
In the past year, the program (formerly known as the Lake and River Cleanup program) supported 291 events, drawing more than 33,000 volunteers who removed approximately 540 tons of litter from areas around Texas waterways.
KTB, a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement nonprofit, strives to educate and engage Texans to take responsibility for improving their community environment. KTB and its more than 340 affiliates work to ensure that every Texan has the opportunity to take individual responsibility for making Texas the cleanest, most beautiful state in the nation.
