First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie announces its annual Pancake-Chili Day will be held beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Family Life Center.

“We want to invite the community to come out and make it a day of food and fun,” said Lori Bryant, church communication coordinator.

Proceeds from the fundraising event, which is sponsored by the Covenant Sunday school class, will go toward missions and other projects.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or people can pay at the door.

“The pancake, bacon and drink combo is $4 and will be served beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, while chili, soup and beans will be served beginning at noon,” Bryant said. “The chili-drink combo is $5, soup-drink combo is $5 and beans-drink combo is $4,” Bryant said, noting homemade desserts are $1 and drinks are 50 cents. The price for all combos for children younger than age 10 is $2.

Carry-outs are available, with soups and chili priced at $5 per pint or $8 per quart.

“The meals will be served in the gathering room of the Family Life Center and everyone is also invited to enjoy the Upward Basketball games in the gym,” Bryant said.

Children and youth director Amanda Sargent described Upward Basketball as a nationwide, Christian-based basketball league sponsored primarily by local churches.

“Upward Basketball is based more on teamwork than individual accomplishment, with the goal of empowering kids,” Sargent said. More than 150 youth in Waxahachie are participating through churches and schools under the direction of volunteer coaches.

“Everyone is welcome to come out Saturday and we appreciate the support for missions and projects,” Bryant said.
