The Chick-fil-A restaurant in Waxahachie will host a fundraiser and send-off party at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, in support of Texas Fallen Heroes and its founder and chairman, Walter Coleman, as he embarks on a walk across the state of Texas in support of U.S. military personnel who have been killed in action.
“I’m not going to go through (urban areas) of the state,” Coleman said. “I’m mostly taking the back roads and visiting smaller communities of the state where Middle America lives.”
Evans, who is also a cancer survivor, said he plans to camp out along the way and will travel alone. The journey is expected to last about six months.
The goal of Texas Fallen Heroes is to create a monument in Texas to honor American military personnel who gave their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The restaurant will donate $1 per customer the day of the fundraiser. Members of the Patriot Riders, Ellis County Honor Flight, the National Guard and the Waxahachie police and fire departments will be present.
