The city of Red Oak is planning for the first citywide celebration of Independence Day with the Red Oak White and Blue celebration scheduled for Saturday, June 30, at Goodloe Stadium.
The event will feature lots of food, games for kids, a flag retirement ceremony and fireworks at sundown.
“It’s going to be a fun filled event for the while family,” said Lauren Whatley, events coordinator with the city of Red Oak.
The gates will open at 6:30 p.m., with bounce houses, pony rides and a petting zoo open for children. Various organizations will sell barbecue and the Red Oak Lions Club will sell drinks. The event will also feature live bluegrass music. KBEC will perform a live broadcast at the event.
The Red Oak ISD Education Foundation will be onsite selling glow sticks and necklaces and the foundation will also sell preferred seating for the event. The Girl Scouts will present a vintage fashion show.
In May, Red Oak ISD students participated in a patriotic essay contest. The winning essays will be read at the event and all essays will be posted at the stadium.
Boy Scouts will hold a flag retirement ceremony at dusk and those planning to attend are welcome to bring flags for proper retirement.
A fireworks show sponsored by Citizens National Bank of Texas will follow the flag retirement ceremony.
Those planning to attend are welcome to bring coolers filled with non-alcoholic drinks to the event. The event is free of admission.
A rain out date is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1.
