ITALY — In the usual tradition of previous years, a queen will be crowned during the halftime portion of the football game Friday night as selected from a group of nominees chosen by their peers.

The homecoming nominees are Barbara Barnhart, Holly Simon, Miracle Evans, Abby Smith, Alex Valdez and Corrina Guerrero.

A representative also was selected for each of the other grades: The ninth grade princess is Shelby Gilley; the 10th-grade princess is Courtney Westbrook; and the 11-grade princess is Becca DeMoss.

“Everyone is so excited and looking forward to the festivities on Friday,” sponsor Ann Hyles said.

Homecoming week began Tuesday with each class participating in some of the organized activities, including Pajama Day on Tuesday, Twin Day on Wednesday, Class Colors on Thursday and Gold and White Day on Friday.

On Wednesday afternoon the student council will sponsor the homecoming king race.

The high school will nominate senior men for homecoming king, who will be crowned on Friday.

Also on Friday, the entire city is invited to participate in the homecoming parade and pep rally.

The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. in front of the dome and travel around the block and end at the dome for the pep rally inside.

“The Italy High School cheerleaders have a special rally in-store for everyone,” a spokesman said. “Please feel welcome to come.”

The community is invited to support the Italy Gladiators as they play the Axtell Longhorns. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Italy Athletic Booster Club will have T-shirts, ball caps and various other items for sale at the game.
