ABWA to meet Jan. 7

The American Business Women's Association (ABWA), Great Visions Charter Chapter - Midlothian will hold its next meeting at 6:15 p.m., Jan. 7, at the  Midlothian Conference Center.

The presentation will be "Amazing Face Reading: A Breakthrough in Communication" by Ann Marks. The presentation will provide participants with a tool that will give them an accurate and immediate assessment of each person they meet. Face reading creates a deeper empathic connection with others, better working alliances, better interviews when hiring employees and better sales and customer service.

Members are encouraged to bring coworkers and friends. Guests are welcome. The meal is $10 and attendees are asked to contact Amanda Miller at 972-948-0811 for reservations.

Irvin Elementary sock hop planned

Plans are being made for the J.R. Ivin Elementary School carnival set for Feb. 9 at the school on West Avenue H.

The theme of this year's event is "Grease" and will feature 50s music, sock hop, ice cream shop and drive-in.

The evening will finish up with a dance. Participants are being asked to dress in 50s style fashions or as a Grease character.

Proceeds from the games and food booths will benefit the school. The event is also looking for community sponsors who would like to fund the event and benefit the school.

Event organizers are hoping to get classic cars to the school.

Anyone wanting to host a booth or become a sponsor can contact Jennifer Roland at 214-862-1569.
