Waxahachie police officers arrested two local men on a burglary of a building charge early Friday morning.

According to the reports, an officer was flagged down by an individual at about 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of W. Main St. That person reported seeing two individuals milling around a closed convenience store at 1713 W. Main.

“Before the officer could get there, WPD received an alarm call from that business,” detective Lt. Todd Woodruff said, saying the officer found the store’s glass door broken out and a cash register missing.

“Our officers immediately began checking the area for suspects,” Woodruff said. “Officer Josh Oliver stopped a car on the northbound Interstate 35E service road near the Waxahachie Civic Center. Officers report finding a cash register inside that vehicle.”

After further investigation, Woodruff said the officers arrested the vehicle’s two occupants: Trenton James Adams, 18, and Jesus Salvador Machuca, 19.

Machuca has since been released on a $7,000 bond, according to jail records, which indicated, as of late Friday, Adams remained in custody awaiting arraignment and the setting of a bond.
