Ellis County communications director Diana Buckley has been appointed the Region III director for the National Association of County Information Officers.
“I’m excited!” Buckley said of her appointment, which became effective Aug.15. “I think it is a great opportunity and I’m honored to be invited to serve.”
“Diana has always been committed to getting information out to the public, letting citizens know what their government is doing,” County Judge Chad Adams said. “This organization supports that goal.”
Buckley’s first official responsibility with the organization is to plan a short training conference to be held in Waxahachie in early December.
“In July, the board approved the concept of holding a winter workshop,” she said. “And their first question was, ‘Where could we go in the middle of the winter?’ To me the answer was simple - Ellis County, Texas.”
The workshop is tentatively set for Dec. 4 and 5 and will feature a variety of topics, from how to get free publicity to streaming video to media policy development for counties.
“Planning started as soon as the NACIO budget was approved,” Buckley said. “And I’ll be getting the publicity out as soon as I can nail down the agenda and the speakers.”
About 50 county information officers and others involved in governmental public relations are expected to attend.
For more information, call Buckley at (972) 825-5087 or visit the county Web site at www.co.ellis.tx.us for updates.
“We sure encourage people to sign up for e-mail updates through our Web site,” Buckley said. “Every time we post something new, we send out a link and it really helps people to stay connected.”
