Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown is one of only 30 first-term sheriffs who have been selected and confirmed from across the nation to attend the upcoming 100th session of the National Sheriff’s Institute.

All expenses for his attendance at the institute, which will be held in April, are being paid for through a grant from the National Sheriff’s Association and the National Institute of Corrections.

“This will be an intensive week with little or no free time and all classes must be attended,” according to the letter of notification, with Brown saying he believes the institute means what it says as he already has received two assignments that must be completed and returned to the NSA prior to mid-March.
