FERRIS — The Ferris Brick Festival begins Friday in the town square with a carnival, entertainment and contests.
Sponsored by Ferris Main Street Program and the Downtown Association, the Ferris Brick Festival has festivities planned for everyone in the family — there is even a dog competition.
The Ferris Brick Festival will be held in the Ferris town square from 6th and Main streets in Ferris. The festival will be held Friday and Saturday, with events beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
To kick off the festival, a “Mutt Strut” dog competition will be open to dogs with judging taking place in four categories: the best trick, best dressed, most vocal and dog most resembling it’s owner.
There will be a carnival and entertainment lasting until 9 p.m. Friday.
Events continue on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will last until dusk. The festival gets underway Saturday with the Brick Decorating contest and a Grandparents Brag contest that is open to grandparents who want to create a brag poster about their grandchildren. There will be a Baby Crawling contest at 10 a.m., Little Mister and Little Miss Ferris Brick pageant at 11 a.m. and the Ellis County Brick Star Search competition for singers, dancers, actors and musicians at 3 p.m.
Entertainment will include the carnival and karaoke. The Juan Diego Mexican Dancers will perform at 3:30 p.m. and again after 6. Saturday. Also on Saturday, there will be a strong man contest.
Singers for the event will be Brandi Miller and Gilbert Wolf. Deejay Gorden Pablo will host the Texas Wild Dog Show at noon.
For more information on contest entries, contact Melanie Queen, treasurer of the Downtown Association, at 972-842-8448 or stop by the Cash and Mail Emporium at 209 W. 6th St. to pick up entry forms.
All events can be entered the day of the competition except The Little Mister and Little Miss Ferris Brick pageant, which requires a rehearsal at 6 p.m. Friday. Entry forms can be filled out for all other competitions the day of the event.
