CLEBURNE – Are your New Year’s cleanup resolutions lagging?

Bluebonnet Resource Conservation and Development and the city of Cleburne are here to help in your cleanup efforts. Tire recycling trailers have been set at the city of Cleburne Transfer Station at 2625 Pipeline Road for free tire recycling.

All residents of Cleburne and Johnson County may bring in unwanted, abandoned tires from their residential, farm or other rural properties for recycling at no cost. No tire disposal from businesses or semi-tires will be accepted at this event. There will be a limited time for this free disposal so get your cleanup efforts in gear. If you are unable to get your cleanup to the transfer station quickly (within the next three weeks), call to confirm that there is still disposal space available through this free event.

Tires can be brought into the transfer station during normal operating hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The tires will be transported for processing and recycling into fuel by a licensed hauler contracted by Bluebonnet RC&D. The cost for processing will be paid with funds from a supplemental environmental grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. When the money runs out, so does the free recycling.

The objective of this grant is to assist people to clean up properties where tires have been illegally dumped or abandoned. So, put on your working clothes and clean up that bar-ditch or pull those old tires from behind the garage or get rid of the tires out in the barn – and take them to the transfer station for proper recycling.

To get to the transfer station, turn west onto Commerce Blvd. from Highway 174 (north of the Highway 67 bypass in Cleburne) follow the curve right onto Pipeline Road. The transfer station is on the left side of the road just after the curve.

If you need more information about the ongoing tire recycling or other environmental concerns, contact Julie Winchell, environmental coordinator for the city of Cleburne at 817-645-0961.
