A benefit car show will be held from 1- 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22 in the parking lot of Northgate Shopping Center on North U.S. Highway 77 on behalf of J.D. Luckau, who was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.

For the past 20 years, Luckau has been the owner and operator of Elf Boot & Shoe Repair, located in the Northgate Shopping Center. Luckau and his wife, Sarah, moved to Waxahachie from Utah, where he went into the shoe repair business.

Choking back tears, his wife, Sarah, noted that her husband was diagnosed a few days ago.

“We’re just now in the process of trying to consult with specialists and to see what the next step is,” she said. “And we don’t have health insurance.”

She explained how the couple came to settle in Waxahachie.

“J.D.’s dad opened up some shoe repair shops throughout the Metroplex, and when it came time for us to have our business, we looked around the area and settled on Waxahachie,” she said. “It’s such a great place to live – we just love it here.”

Luckau is in need of chemotherapy and radiation “and the expenses are devastating this family,” a spokesman said. “His family depends on him for sole support. Prayers, support and donations are greatly appreciated.”

Luckau is a community leader, involved in Boy Scouts and has been instrumental in developing a skate park for Waxahachie youth.

A donation account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank under the name of John Luckau.
