Saturday, Nov.10, is the semi-annual Charity Day Sale at Belk department store.

Every fall and spring, Belk provides a fund-raising opportunity for charitable and nonprofit organizations by providing them with coupons to sell for $5 each. The coupons give the purchaser a pass into the store from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, to take advantage of special savings on merchandise.

“We will have door prizes, entertainment and refreshments during our sale day,” store manager Shelley Graham said, saying a $1,000 shopping spree also will be given away.

“Any nonprofit charitable organization can participate,” human resource manager Karen Woodward said. “School band boosters, school choirs, parent-teachers associations and churches are just a few of the organizations that are included.

Some of the organizations that have participated in the past are Waxahachie CARE, Foundation of Life, St. John Catholic School, Daniel’s Den, Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties, United Way of West Ellis County and the Women’s Resource Center.

Not only are nonprofit organizations able to raise funds through the coupon sale, but each is automatically entered into a drawing for a $1,000 donation.

“This is just a way for us to give back to the community,” Graham said. “And we want to emphasize that Belk gets no money from the sale of the coupons - every cent goes to the nonprofit organizations.”

Belk department store, which opened in October 2005, is located at 1540 U.S. Highway 77 North in the Waxahachie Towne Center.
