The Waxahachie Firefighter’s Association Local 3010 and the Ennis Firefighter’s Association Local 3320 are sponsoring their first police and fire softball tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise monies for the local associations and to bring the community together for a fun-filled day, Waxahachie firefighter Brent Fuller said.

“This will just be a fun day for the entire family to come out and enjoy a game of softball,” Fuller said. “This tournament is also open for the public to attend.”

There are 14 teams of firefighters and policemen involved in the tournament with teams coming from Ennis, Richardson, Coppell, Mansfield, Red Oak, Dallas, Glenn Heights and other areas.

This will be a double elimination tournament with police and fire brackets, with the championship game played by the No. 1 police and fire teams at the end of the day.

For entertainment, there will be antique fire trucks and regular police vehicles on display, a bounce house and fingerprint cards for the children and an Evac Medical helicopter.

“This will just be an event geared toward bringing our city together,” firefighter Candon Birdwell said.

The complex is located at 151 Broadhead Road.
