The District of Columbia National Guard presented The Band of the Nation’s Capital, the 257th Army Band, who performed in concert Monday evening at the Chautauqua Auditorium.
The group boasts a proud lineage dating back to the legendary Corcoran Cadets of 1883, the D.C. militia that inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his famous march, “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The 257th Army Band is under the command of chief warrant officer Sheila M. Klotz, the first female commander in the history of Army National Guard bands.
Featured vocalist is specialist Vicki Golding, the 2006-07 Military Idol winner.
The band, which is based out of Fort Hood for this tour of North Texas venues, plays tonight in Tyler and Wednesday in Cleburne.
