MIDLOTHIAN – Life Church of Midlothian is hosting a “Back2School Bash” beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Midlothian Multi-Use Stadium.
“Our goal is to ask people to donate school supplies that will be given to Manna House to distribute while entertaining families with some of the biggest inflatable activities that they have ever seen – all for free,” a church spokesman said.
The event will feature booths offering free haircuts and immunizations to assist students as they prepare to go back to school.
“We (want to) get the word out that (students) need to bring two copies of their shot records in order to receive the required immunizations,” a spokesman said.
The Texas Rangers game will be displayed on several large TVs under a large 40-feet by 80-feet shade tent and entertainment will be on the main stage. The evening will end with the Midlothian Parks and Recreation Movie in the Park showing “Toy Store 3” at dusk.
“We will have more than 200 volunteers throughout the course of the day and we are expecting hundreds of people from across Ellis County to show up and have lined up interviews on ABC’s Morning Show Thursday morning,” a spokesman said.
Jason Exley is the senior pastor of Life Church and gave his vision for the church and the event.
“I believe church isn’t what happens inside the four walls of the church building but what happens outside in the community. That’s why we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting ready to serve people. We’re in the middle of a big recession – the biggest of my life,” Exley said. “There are hurting people in need of help and hope. If we as a church can meet that need, that’s what we are here to do. This is a big event with the biggest bounce houses and hundreds of door prizes, yet this isn’t about marketing our church but about collecting canned goods and school supplies for the Manna House.”
