The next meeting of the DeSoto Art League will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 27, which is always the last Thursday of the month.

It will be held at the regular meeting place, the fellowship hall of the DeSoto Presbyterian Church, 212 W. Pleasant Run Road, DeSoto.

Visitors are welcome and attendees may bring a friend. Refreshments will be served before a brief business meeting.

It is also the time to enter a painting in “Painting of the Month.” First, second and third place winners will be displayed in the DeSoto Library.

September’s guest artist is Belinda Logan who will do a watercolor demonstration of a floral or a western scene. The theme will be “Making Transparent Watercolor Work for You.” Logan works flat and attendees will be able to watch what she does in an overhead mirror.

Logan just returned from a workshop by Diane Maxey and has also studied with well-known artists including Nita Leland, Frank Francese, Judi Betts, Fran Larsen and Pat San Soucie.

“You can take lots of classes but painting every opportunity is the best teacher,” Logan said. “We learn by honing our skills and, at times, by our mistakes.”

Logan’s paintings have been accepted in Southwestern Watercolor, Fort Worth Watercolor Society and Texas and Neighbors, among others.

Logan teaches private classes, classes for the city of Plano and in after school program for children ages kindergarten through grade five. She has also taught for MJ Designs, JoAnn’s and various city park and recreation programs.
