OVILLA — Animal Hospital of Ovilla opened its doors to the community Saturday in celebration of its 10-year anniversary.

Guests were invited to tour the building and get a first hand look at the technologies used in veterinary medicine.

“Reaching the 10-year mark has been a wonderful accomplishment for me. The practice has really grown in leaps and bounds allowing us to many different types of treatment options,” owner Dr. Mark Stanfill said.

“I grew up around the corner in Red Oak and after practicing in DeSoto I wanted to come back to this area,” he said. “It was really a leap of faith to build this building and not have a single client to start with.”

Stanfill has practiced veterinary medicine since 1993 with a focus on treating small animals such as cats, dogs, reptiles and birds. When he first started, Stanfill did treat larger animals, such as horses, but two years into it he refocused his attention on smaller animals. On occasion, he also has treated exotic animals, such as tiger cubs from Austin that had a case of ringworms and some lemurs from Texarkana.

“Today, we just wanted to have an open house to say thank you to all the people who have been here since the beginning. Along with hospital’s anniversary we have some staff that have been here since we opened our doors,” he said. “The community has been very welcoming and warm and it has been a privilege for me to take care of their family member.”

Stanfill has expanded the different services offered to clients since opening the hospital. With improving technology, he can do more in house, such as lab work, X-rays, dental care, diagnostic services and internal medical cases.

Dr. Anne Owen joined the staff in 2001. She works 3 1/2 days each week with a staff of 16 employees.

“Over the years, we have grown to around 6,700 clients. Today, one of my clients brought an invoice receipt listed as No. 67 and as account No. 4 entered from when we started, as a memento,” he said. “I just would like to thank the community for their support and their continued trust in me to take care to their pets.”
