County Commissioner Pct. 1 Dennis Robinson will serve as chairman of a newly-formed animal control committee.

“The goal of the committee will be to discuss and find solutions to the issues that we are having pertaining to animal control in Ellis County,” Robinson said during Monday night’s meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners Court. “The committee will report back to the commissioners court with recommendations that will provide sufficient animal control that preserves and protects health and safety and that is cost-effective for the citizens of Ellis County.”

As approved by the commissioners, the committee will include Sheriff Ray Stewart; Johnna Wallace and Bob Mahlstedt of the Ellis County SPCA; JoAnn Livingston of the Waxahachie Daily Light; Kennette Davis and Roy Callender of Pct. 2; Bill Kinsala, Harlan Lowrance and Paul Perry of Pct. 3; and Angela Delay, Robert Crosby and Heather Starks of Pct. 4.

“We will ask that staff from the county and the SPCA be available upon request to provide information pertaining to animal control,” Robinson said, noting each commissioner had been asked to name representatives to the committee.

The cross-section of membership “will bring different ideas and solutions to the table,” Robinson said.

Robinson said he would be contacting the committee members in the near future to set up a time, date and place for the first meeting.
