The annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at Getzendaner Park in Waxahachie.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 8:30. The walk begins at 9.

To start a team or make a donation, contact the Alzheimer’s Association at www.AlzDallas.org or call Dustin Holcomb at (214) 540-2411.

The event raises public awareness and funds for the fight against Alzheimer’s. In 2006, Memory Walk raised more than $30 million from across the nation for care and support of those affected by the disease and research for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, with the Greater Dallas chapter providing support and assistance to persons affected by the disease and to their families and other caregivers through its core services.

“Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health,” a spokesman said. “Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s.”
