To kick off the Summer Reading Club Leanna Cowan, executive director of the Alvarado Public Library notes three super events.

“At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, you can see Wild about the West with Bucky the Cowgirl and her puppet friends,” Cowan said. “Bucky the Cowgirl features ventriloquism, puppets and magic tricks.”

At 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 3 there will be two shows offered. Rachel Callicutt, Miss Teen Eastern Johnson County will play her fiddle and officially open the Summer Reading Program, then at 1:30 p.m. guests can participate in Mark Shelton’s High Energy Percussion Party with drums and more.

Every summer the library offers reading clubs for adults, teens and younger children with special prizes for the top readers and certificates and coupons for those who meet the minimum reading requirements. Sign-up for the reading clubs will start Monday, June 1.

During June and July the library provides free weekly programs given by professional entertainers, musicians, puppeteers and storytellers. The library’s programs are suitable for all ages and take place at 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday with drawings for free door prizes. In addition the library has free public showings of recently released family friendly DVDs at 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday  with free popcorn
